This is a working draft for launch. It is not a substitute for a lawyer's review.
Effective August 25, 2026.
These are the terms for using The Vigil Lamp — the website at thevigillamp.com and the daily membership.
We tried to write them the way we would say them at the table. If something here is unclear, write us and we will say it again in plainer words.
Who we are
The Vigil Lamp is a family offering: a saint's life each day, prepared for Orthodox homes. We are not an official publication of any diocese, parish, or jurisdiction. We follow the Church's calendar and use the Church's own prayers and appointed readings. The storytelling is ours.
You can reach us at hello@thevigillamp.com.
What members receive
A membership brings the daily vigil to your home: the icon, the appointed readings, the story, the prayer, the questions, the activity, the audio, and the coloring pages. Past days stay in your library.
You may register at /pre-register/ or Subscribe on the site. Checkout is open. A 7-day free trial starts when you register.
That email is personal data. How we keep it, and how to ask us to delete it, is in the Privacy Policy.
A card is collected at checkout when you begin the trial, not before. The first charge comes after the 7-day trial, if you have not canceled.
Price and the trial
Two ways to pay:
- $5 a month
- $50 a year
We launch on August 25, 2026. From that day forward, every new member gets a 7-day free trial. The seven days start the day you begin the membership. They end seven days later.
If you join in September, you get seven days from your start date. We do not backdate the trial to August 25. The trial is not only for launch week. It is the same offer for every new member, whenever they start.
You connect a payment method when you begin — at launch, or later if you join after that — so the membership can continue if you stay. A card is collected at checkout when you start the trial. The first charge comes after the 7-day trial, if you have not canceled. If you cancel before the seven days end, you will not be charged.
After the trial, monthly members are charged each month. Yearly members are charged once for the year.
If you join as a founding member and stay, the founding price — $5 a month or $50 a year — is locked in while the membership stays active. That is what “founding price locked in” means. The lock is for continuous founding members. You may cancel anytime. The lock holds while you stay. If you cancel and come back later, you may not keep the founding lock. The public price at that time may apply.
Payments are handled by Stripe. We do not keep your full card number.
If a payment fails, we will try again a reasonable number of times and write to you. If it still fails, the membership will pause until it is put right.
Canceling
Cancel in your account, or write to hello@thevigillamp.com and we will do it for you. You may cancel anytime, including during the trial. The founding lock holds while you stay.
When you cancel:
- During the trial, you owe nothing.
- A monthly membership stops at the end of the period you already paid. We will not charge you again.
- If you prepaid the year and need to leave early, write us. We will treat you fairly.
If a charge looks wrong, write us. We will make it right.
What you may do with the content
Every story is an original retelling. The saint is real. The names, places, and events are faithful to the traditional accounts. The words are our own.
The icons are real holy images, used with care. We do not claim to own the historic icons.
You may:
- read the day's vigil aloud in your home
- print the coloring pages and activities for your own family, for personal and home use
- listen to the audio in your own home
You may not:
- republish the stories — not on a website, not in a parish packet, not in a book, not as a file you pass around
- copy the program and sell it, or give it away as if it were yours
- take the icons out and reuse them as your own art
A grandmother reading to the grandchildren is exactly what this is for. Posting tomorrow's saint on the internet is not.
If a parish or school wants to use this with more than one household, write us first.
Accounts
The membership belongs to one household. Share it around your own table. Do not share the login with other families.
A parent or other grown-up creates and holds the account. Keep your password to yourself. If something looks wrong, write us.
Children
This is made for families. Children use the daily vigil with a parent. The stories are true lives of the saints, and some of those lives include hardship and martyrdom. We tell them carefully. You know your children.
If something goes wrong
The Vigil Lamp is a help in the home, not a substitute for your parish, your priest, or the services of the Church.
We work carefully, but we cannot promise the site will never go down, or that a given day's edition will never be late. If we miss a day, we will put it up as soon as we can, and it will stay in your library.
The site and the membership are offered as they are. To the extent the law allows, The Vigil Lamp is not responsible for losses we could not reasonably have prevented — a day that arrives late, a page that will not load, or a problem on a network that is not ours. If we are responsible for a problem, our responsibility is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before you wrote us.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, in the United States. If a disagreement ever has to go to a court, that court would be in Florida.
If we change these terms
Small clarifications we will simply post here. If a change touches price or what you may do with the editions, we will write to the email we have for you.
